Supporting eligible DVA clients with Personal Response Systems

DVA Rehabilitation Appliances Program (DVA RAP)

Rehabilitation Appliances Program (RAP) is an Australian Government program administered by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA). It provides eligible DVA clients with aids, equipment and modifications to help clients live safely and independently.

RAP provides 24/7 monitored Personal Response Systems (PRS) in the client’s home and Mobile Personal Emergency Response Systems (MPERS) for client’s seeking assistance beyond the boundary of the home.

Tunstall Healthcare is a contracted supplier of personal response systems under this program.

Eligibility

The DVA client must have a clinical need for a PRS/MPERS unit and a:

  • Gold Card; or
  • White Card with an accepted condition relating to the clinical need for the equipment.

DVA does not supply Personal Response Systems to persons who live in Residential Aged Care.

Personal Response Systems and Mobile Personal Emergency Response Systems must be prescribed by a suitably qualified assessing health provider as follows:

  • Occupational Therapist (OT)
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Physiotherapist (Physio)

The DVA RAP PRS national guideline provides further information regarding eligibility.
